Chinese Taipei (simplified Chinese: 中华台北; traditional Chinese: 中華臺北; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Táiběi) competed in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar in November and December 2006. The Chinese Taipei team sent 399 athletes to the games, making Chinese Taipei the fourth largest delegation after China, Japan, and South Korea. Despite Taiwan's small size, Chinese Taipei is a second-rank Asian sports power, finishing tenth in gold medals and seventh in overall medals at the 2006 Asian Games, a slight drop from its performance in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.

Famous quotes containing the words chinese, asian and/or games:

I find it more credible, since it is anterior information, that one man should know heaven, as the Chinese say, than that so many men should know the world.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10,000 miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

In the past, it seemed to make sense for a sportswriter on sabbatical from the playpen to attend the quadrennial hawgkilling when Presidential candidates are chosen, to observe and report upon politicians at play. After all, national conventions are games of a sort, and sports offers few spectacles richer in low comedy.
    Walter Wellesley (Red)
