History
The foundation of CRRC was initiated with support of Deng Pufang, the son of Deng Xiaoping, who suffered traumatic spinal injury during the days of Cultural Revolution. Together with a group of physicians and important persons he could promote the concept of rehabilitation which was not established in China yet. They managed to get support from the authorities.
Construction started in 1986 and was finished within 18 months. Opening ceremony took place at Oct., 28 in 1988. CRRC became the very first rehabilitation hospital in PR China. The Center got international attention and received support from Japan, Canada and Germany among others.
The hospital was originally built to serve 600 patients, but these days about 900 patients are treated there. Because of housing in family members as integral part of rehabilitation the hospital is quite crowded. Since 2006 a new and very modern building is under construction. It even contains special facilities for spine surgery and physical therapy.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
To see come into being.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
“The history of the genesis or the old mythology repeats itself in the experience of every child. He too is a demon or god thrown into a particular chaos, where he strives ever to lead things from disorder into order.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
