The writers of the Hippocratic Corpus separated the Diseases of Women from the rest of the Corpus. There were also a number of influential Hippocratic treatises: Sterile Women; On the Nature of Women; Superfetation (the conception of a second fetus while already pregnant); Excision of the Fetus (on complications during delivery); On the Diseases of Young Girls (illnesses believed to be caused by delayed marriage); and other treatises covering the development of the fetus at different stages of gestation.
