Chief Bast

Chief Bast is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe.

He was an Imperial Officer stationed aboard the first Death Star. Like General Tagge, Chief Bast feared that the Rebels might find an exploitable weakness in the purloined plans for the battle station. He was unable to convince Grand Moff Tarkin of the danger, however. He was then killed when the Death Star was destroyed by Luke Skywalker.

The Star Wars Holiday Special features an officer resembling Chief Bast serving under Darth Vader during the Imperial occupation of Kashyyyk in re-used footage originally from A New Hope. However, despite the re-used footage, that was another of many cases in which the same actor portrayed different characters in the films. Chief Bast was onscreen on the Death Star seconds before its destruction, and other sources, the first of which was 2005's Star Wars Encyclopedia, have confirmed the character's death. Leland Chee, the keeper of Lucasfilm's continuity database, has used that entry to confirm Bast's death.

Famous quotes containing the word chief:

God protect us from the efficient, go-getter businesswoman whose feminine instincts have been completely sterilized. Wherever women are functioning, whether in the home or in a job, they must remember that their chief function as women is a capacity for warm, understanding and charitable human relationships.
    Agnes E. Meyer (1887–1970)
