The Chicago Art Open
The Chicago Art Open was founded by the Chicago Artists' Coalition in 1998 and remains the premiere survey of local art. Held in October as a centerpiece of Chicago Artists' Month, the Chicago Art Open features the work of around 300 Chicago artists, primarily professional but also including work from emerging and student artists. In 2008, the Chicago Art Open will be held at a new venue, at the Merchandise Mart in River North.

Famous quotes containing the words chicago, art and/or open:
“Must we really see Chicago in order to be educated?”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“Hail, hail, plump paunch, O the founder of taste
For fresh meats, or powdered, or pickle, or paste;
Devourer of broiled, baked, roasted or sod,
And emptier of cups, be they even or odd;
All which have now made thee so wide i the waist
As scarce with no pudding thou art to be laced;
But eating and drinking until thou dost nod,
Thou breakst all thy girdles, and breakst forth a god.”
—Ben Jonson (15721637)
“The secret point of money and power in America is neither the things that money can buy nor power for powers sake ... but absolute personal freedom, mobility, privacy. It is the instinct which drove America to the Pacific, all through the nineteenth century, the desire to be able to find a restaurant open in case you want a sandwich, to be a free agent, live by ones own rules.”
—Joan Didion (b. 1934)
