Foundation

The Institute of Taxation (the forerunner of the Chartered Institute) was formed in 1930, incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Chartered Institute is incorporated by Royal Charter. One of the founder members was Ronald Staples, the founding editor of Taxation Magazine. It was originally proposed to used the letters ATI (Associate of the Taxation Institute) and FTI (Fellow of the Taxation Institute). When it was discovered that these letters had already been allocated to the Textiles Institute, an extra "I" was added to each set of letters, standing for "Incorporated".

Famous quotes containing the word foundation:

To apologize is to lay the foundation for a future offense.
    Ambrose Bierce (1842–1914)

If all political power be derived only from Adam, and be to descend only to his successive heirs, by the ordinance of God and divine institution, this is a right antecedent and paramount to all government; and therefore the positive laws of men cannot determine that, which is itself the foundation of all law and government, and is to receive its rule only from the law of God and nature.
    John Locke (1632–1704)

Surrealism is not a school of poetry but a movement of liberation.... A way of rediscovering the language of innocence, a renewal of the primordial pact, poetry is the basic text, the foundation of the human order. Surrealism is revolutionary because it is a return to the beginning of all beginnings.
    Octavio Paz (b. 1914)
