Green married Elizabeth Long in March 1768 in London; the records of the Royal Society mention making a provision of £50 per annum for his wife for the duration of the expedition. Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself.
    John Stuart Mill (1806–1873)

Those who first introduced compulsory education into American life knew exactly why children should go to school and learn to read: to save their souls.... Consistent with this goal, the first book written and printed for children in America was titled Spiritual Milk for Boston Babes in either England, drawn from the Breasts of both Testaments for their Souls’ Nourishment.
    Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)
