Application of The Theory

  • Linwood Project
  • Individualized Instruction at Georegetown, American Universities
  • The University Learning Center at American University: The University Learning Center represented a radical experiment in undergraduate, interdisciplinary education in which the principles of operant behavior were directly applied. The center itself—an open, free-flowing physical space on campus—was conceived of as the "chamber" in which instruction and learning occurred. The environment adhered in obvious ways to such cornerstone concepts as immediate positive reinforcement, successive approximation, schedules of reinforcement, discriminative stimui and the like. Professors of Psychology, Physics, Anthropology, Psychiatry, Sociology, Philosophy, Mathematics staffed the Learning Center, as did many graduate students in these fields.

Famous quotes containing the words application of the, application of, application and/or theory:

The best political economy is the care and culture of men; for, in these crises, all are ruined except such as are proper individuals, capable of thought, and of new choice and the application of their talent to new labor.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

By an application of the theory of relativity to the taste of readers, to-day in Germany I am called a German man of science, and in England I am represented as a Swiss Jew. If I come to be regarded as a bête noire the descriptions will be reversed, and I shall become a Swiss Jew for the Germans and a German man of science for the English!
    Albert Einstein (1879–1955)

    May my application so close
    To so endless a repetition
Not make me tired and morose
    And resentful of man’s condition.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

It makes no sense to say what the objects of a theory are,
beyond saying how to interpret or reinterpret that theory in another.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
