Hayes dated former Middlesbrough football player Matthew Bates for several months in 2009. On 6 August 2009, Hayes was rushed to hospital after attempting suicide by taking an overdose of paracetamol and red wine following a heated argument with Bates. Hayes was discharged from hospital the following day. On 20 January 2010, it was reported that she was expecting her first child with Bates, a boy. Hayes started dating Jack Tweed at the beginning of April 2010, and confirmed their split on 1 July 2010. However, local news has reported that Hayes and Tweed have been spotted shopping together in Cathedral Retail Park in Hayes' hometown of Wakefield (January 2012). She gave birth to her son Blakely Hayes on 20 July 2010, announcing it via Twitter.
On 18 September 2011 she completed the Great North Run in aid of Cancer Research UK, in a time of 2:44.
