Chandpur plays an active role in Uttar Pradesh politics, being known as "Mini Chahproli", and a number of its MPs have been appointed ministers in the recent past. Sch as raashid alvi is the member of the Indian parliament since 1990 and mohd parvez also joined the Indian parliament since 2002. Politics in Chandpur had always been volatile, with Azad candidates generally winning the local assembly elections.
