Wikinews has related news: Two shot and killed in UK bank robbery

Chandler's Ford made national headlines in September 2007 when an armed bank robbery was foiled: On 13 September 2007, the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad, in conjunction with the Hampshire Constabulary, foiled a bank robbery outside the HSBC bank in the central precinct on Winchester Road in Chandler's Ford. Two robbers were shot dead by the police as they were tipped off to the robbery and hid behind the nearby toilet cubicles. One more robber fled the scene by car and was later arrested.

The same bank unfortunately had another attempt which managed to relieve a security guard of a cash box delivering to the branch on 24th January 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word crime:

It recognizes no morality but a sham morality meant for deceit, no honor even among thieves and of a thievish sort, no force but physical force, no intellectual power but cunning, no disgrace but failure, no crime but stupidity.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

Each man’s private conscience ought to be a nice little self-registering thermometer: he ought to carry his moral code incorruptibly and explicitly within himself, and not care what the world thinks. The mass of human beings, however, are not made that way; and many people have been saved from crime or sin by the simple dislike of doing things they would not like to confess ...
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)

[T]here is only one sound argument for democracy, and that is the argument that it is a crime for any man to hold himself out as better than other men, and, above all, a most heinous offense for him to prove it.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)
