Central Park Conservancy

The Central Park Conservancy is a private, nonprofit organization that manages Central Park under a contract with New York City. Since its founding in 1980 by a group of dedicated civic and philanthropic leaders, the Conservancy has invested more than $600 million toward the restoration and enhancement of Central Park and is considered a model for urban park management worldwide. With contributions from Park-area residents, corporations and foundations, the Conservancy provides 85 percent of the Park’s $42.4 million annual Parkwide expense budget and is responsible for all basic care of the 843-acre Park.

Famous quotes containing the words central and/or park:

Incarnate devil in a talking snake,
The central plains of Asia in his garden,
In shaping-time the circle stung awake,
In shapes of sin forked out the bearded apple....
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Is a park any better than a coal mine? What’s a mountain got that a slag pile hasn’t? What would you rather have in your garden—an almond tree or an oil well?
    Jean Giraudoux (1882–1944)
