Central Blood Volume

The central blood volume (CBV) is the combined volume of blood in the heart cavities, lungs and central arterial tree. CBV is increased during sympathetic stimulation.

Famous quotes containing the words central, blood and/or volume:

In a large university, there are as many deans and executive heads as there are schools and departments. Their relations to one another are intricate and periodic; in fact, “galaxy” is too loose a term: it is a planetarium of deans with the President of the University as a central sun. One can see eclipses, inner systems, and oppositions.
    Jacques Barzun (b. 1907)

    there is more blood than
    sweet juice
    always more blood—mister
    death goes indoors
    exhausted
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)

She carries a book but it is not
the tome of the ancient wisdom,
the pages, I imagine, are the blank pages
of the unwritten volume of the new.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)
