Center For Liberty in The Middle East

The Center for Liberty in the Middle East (CLIME) is a non-profit organization that supports courageous individuals and civic groups spreading democratic values of liberty and tolerance in the Middle East. Through its network of democratic activists throughout the region, CLIME advocates peaceful transitions to political systems that protect individual liberties, enable full political participation, and respect ethnic, religious and political pluralism. CLIME works with Middle Eastern democrats to deepen their societies’ awareness of the building blocks of liberal democracy while enhancing their capacity to galvanize grassroots constituencies for political reform.

The center’s U.S. director is Eleana Gordon who leads a bipartisan and multi-national team that offers reform activists extensive experience in political and advocacy campaign management, strategic communications, democracy training and education, media relations, organization building, and the strategic use of technology. Famous quotes containing the words center, liberty, middle and/or east:

The question of whether it’s God’s green earth is not at center stage, except in the sense that if so, one is reminded with some regularity that He may be dying.
    Edward Hoagland (b. 1932)

The obscure only exists that it may cease to exist. In it lies the opportunity of all victory and all progress. Whether it call itself fatality, death, night, or matter, it is the pedestal of life, of light, of liberty and the spirit. For it represents resistance—that is to say, the fulcrum of all activity, the occasion for its development and its triumph.
    Henri-Frédéric Amiel (1821–1881)

Such is the nature of crowds: either they are humble and servile or arrogant and dominating. They are incapable of making moderate use of freedom, which is the middle course, or of keeping it.
    Titus Livius (Livy)

Everybody ought to have a lower East Side in their life.
    Irving Berlin (1888–1989)
