Appearance
It is interesting to note that the Centaurus beetle's adult morphology is strikingly similar to that of beetles from the Dynastes genus which originate from tropical America, which led to its initial classification to that genus. Eventually, it was moved to its present genus to avoid confusion as even the Xylotrupes genus from the southeast Asian tropics have a similar form. The male has large horns and is considerably bigger than the female, which has no horns as well.

“The President has paid dear for his White House. It has commonly cost him all his peace, and the best of his manly attributes. To preserve for a short time so conspicuous an appearance before the world, he is content to eat dust before the real masters who stand erect behind the throne.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I think I am one of those who can manage not to take on a completely different appearance under their own glance.”
—Jean Rostand (18941977)
“You speak of poverty and dependence. Who are poor and dependent? Who are rich and independent? When was it that men agreed to respect the appearance and not the reality?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
