Background
The CDVU+ is an attempt of Disney's and Hollywood Records to reverse the declining trend of CD sales in the industry. The format's debut was 8-7-07 from the Jonas Brothers' eponymous second album.. CDVU+ replaces the traditional CD booklet/jewel case with eco-friendly packaging (100% recyclable, 35% post-consumer) while still offering a large amount of physical content according to a press conference with Hollywood Records representatives. In a statement from Abbey Konowitch, the General Manager at Disney's Hollywood Records label, "To address the changing consumer expectations, we've created a recognizable physical product that also serves as a key to unlock content that is exclusive, interactive, tailored to the band's fans, and updatable." This means that each artist's disc is original, featuring content available via the CD as well as containing content downloadable from the disc onto the person's computer. Neither Disney, nor Hollywood Records have released sales expectations but are confident that the 2007 holiday season is going to be a welcome surprise to many industry experts expectations.
