- In Central Counterparty Clearing, CCP is an acronym for the central counterparty, a financial institution that acts as an intermediary between buyer and seller. The CCP steps in and insures the buyer will receive possession of what was purchased, and the seller will be paid on time. When many buyers and sellers use the same CCP, it may also simplify multiple settlements by netting out transactions.
