CBS Studio Building - Columbia Records

Columbia Records

With the advent of television, large radio studios that could accommodate audiences were no longer needed. The facility became recording studios for Columbia Records. Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan (in Spring 1970 for part of his New Morning album), and Paul Simon recorded music there.

The facility contained Columbia's "Studio B" on the second floor and "Studio E" on the sixth floor.

Famous quotes containing the words columbia and/or records:

Although there is no universal agreement as to a definition of life, its biological manifestations are generally considered to be organization, metabolism, growth, irritability, adaptation, and reproduction.
—The Columbia Encyclopedia, Fifth Edition, the first sentence of the article on “life” (based on wording in the First Edition, 1935)

Philosophy, astronomy, and politics were marked at zero, I remember. Botany variable, geology profound as regards the mud stains from any region within fifty miles of town, chemistry eccentric, anatomy unsystematic, sensational literature and crime records unique, violin player, boxer, swordsman, lawyer, and self-poisoner by cocaine and tobacco.
    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)
