In 2005, Pope Benedict XVI took up the concerns of his predecessors in his first encyclical, Deus Caritas Est, where he raises some questions regarding Eros, body and the Church. (Did Christianity destroy Eros? Doesn't the Church, with all her commandments and prohibitions, turn to bitterness the most precious thing in life?
