Catholic Memorial School (West Roxbury, Massachusetts) - Forensics Speech and Debate Program

Forensics Speech and Debate Program

At Catholic Memorial, nearly every student participates in forensics, or speech and debate, at one point in his academic career. CM's faculty work with students to produce confident public speakers through various classroom activities, and in the Speech and Debate club, students perform and compete interscholastically as they recite speeches, dramatic acts and original oratory. Since 1961, the school's Speech and Debate program has produced over twenty-five state and three national champions, and the 2010 team won the “Founder's Award” at Nationals.

The following are the Massachusetts Forensics League State Champions listed with their winning categories.

Famous quotes containing the words speech, debate and/or program:

    These things shine:
    The sports of a lord,
the jealousy of a beloved woman,
    the forbearance of the powerful,
    the speech of the wise,
    and the silence of fools.
    Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)

Like man and wife who nightly keep
    Inconsequent debate in sleep
As they dream side by side.
    Robert Graves (1895–1985)

These native villages are as unchanging as the woman in one of their stories. When she was called before a local justice he asked her age. “I have 45 years.” “But,” said the justice, “you were forty-five when you appeared before me two years ago.” “Señor Judge,” she replied proudly, drawing herself to her full height, “I am not of those who are one thing today and another tomorrow!”
State of New Mexico, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
