Catchphrase (UK Game Show)

Catchphrase is a British game show based on a short-lived U.S. game show of the same name. It ran on ITV in the United Kingdom between 12 January 1986 and 19 December 2002, originally hosted by Northern Irish comedian Roy Walker; followed by Nick Weir and lastly, Mark Curry. In August 2012, it was announced that Stephen Mulhern was to host a revived version of the show beginning in 2013.

Two contestants, one male and the other female, would have to identify the familiar phrase represented by a piece of animation accompanied by background music. The show's mascot, a golden robot called "Mr Chips", appeared in many of the animations.

Repeats of the 1994–1999 series (Roy Walker's final series) can be seen on Challenge.

Famous quotes containing the word game:

Wild Bill was indulging in his favorite pastime of a friendly game of cards in the old No. 10 saloon. For the second time in his career, he was sitting with his back to an open door. Jack McCall walked in, shot him through the back of the head, and rushed from the place, only to be captured shortly afterward. Wild Bill’s dead hand held aces and eights, and from that time on this has been known in the West as “the dead man’s hand.”
