Carrier People
The Dakelh (pronounced ) or Carrier are the indigenous people of a large portion of the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada.
Most Carrier call themselves Dakelh, meaning "people who go around by boat". The term Carrier is a translation of the name for them used by the neighboring Sekani First Nations people which Europeans learned first because they crossed Sekani territory before entering Carrier territory. The Dakelh are linguistically Athabaskan.

Famous quotes containing the words carrier and/or people:
“The problems of society will also be the problems of the predominant language of that society. It is the carrier of its perceptions, its attitudes, and its goals, for through it, the speakers absorb entrenched attitudes. The guilt of English then must be recognized and appreciated before its continued use can be advocated.”
—Njabulo Ndebele (b. 1948)
“Religion is by no means a proper subject of conversation in mixed company; it should only be treated among a very few people of learning, for mutual instruction. It is too awful and respectable a subject to become a familiar one.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
