Caroline Cooney was born in 1947 in Geneva, NY and grew up in Old Greenwich, CT. As an avid reader in her youth, she was interested in The Hardy Boys and Cherry Ames series; her interest in Cherry Ames later influenced her decision to attend nursing school in Boston. In college, Cooney became interested in writing. She attended several colleges but did not obtain a degree, opting to pursue a career as a writer.
