Carnlough is a mostly nationalist town with Sinn Féin making a small breakthrough in the village in the last few years.Carnlough Orange Hall was destroyed in a sectarian attack in 2000 Recently there has been strong opposition to controversial Orange Order parades in the village. The twelfth of July celebrations are held in the village every 7 years. The last being in 2007 where a local residents group protested against the parade as well as a Royal Black Preceptory parade.
