All of the Cognitive Tutor curricula are based on extensive scientific research from Carnegie Mellon University, along with field tests in schools throughout the United States. A review by the United States Department of Education concluded that Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor had “no discernible effects” on the standardized test scores of high school students.
