Cardiff International Sports Village

Cardiff International Sports Village (Welsh: Pentref Chwaraeon Rhyngwladol Caerdydd) is located in Cardiff Bay in the city of Cardiff, Wales. It is one of the largest regeneration projects currently in the UK. It is a public-private funded project.

The site currently has a 50-metre (164 ft) Olympic standard swimming pool, a temporary ice rink and a white water canoeing and kayaking centre.

Upon completion, it will also have an indoor snow centre with real snow for skiing and snowboarding, and a hotel. It was envisaged to have a 220-metre (722 ft) observation tower and a super-casino, although both schemes are unlikely to ever to be realised. It is possible that some of the sporting facilities will be used as a training venue for the London 2012 Olympics along with the Millennium Stadium, which will host some of the football.

Famous quotes containing the words sports and/or village:

Even from their infancy we frame them to the sports of love: their instruction, behaviour, attire, grace, learning and all their words aimeth only at love, respects only affection. Their nurses and their keepers imprint no other thing in them.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

While yet it is cold January, and snow and ice are thick and solid, the prudent landlord comes from the village to get ice to cool his summer drink; impressively, even pathetically, wise, to foresee the heat and thirst of July now in January,—wearing a thick coat and mittens! when so many things are not provided for. It may be that he lays up no treasures in this world which will cool his summer drink in the next.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
