Carbon-11 or 11C is a radioactive isotope of carbon. It decays about 99% by positron emission to boron-11 and .19-.23% by K-capture also to boron-11. It has a half-life of 20.38 minutes.
- 11C → 11B + e+ + ν
e + 0.96 MeV - 11C → 11B + ν
e + 3.17 MeV
Carbon-11 is commonly used as a radioisotope to radioactive labeling of molecules in positron emission tomography. Among the many molecules used in this context is the radioligand DASB.
