The Combatants
HMS Cyane was a Royal Navy Banterer Class Sixth Rate Post-ship in company with the 6th rate flush-decked ship HMS Levant of 20 guns. Both ships were involved in a battle with USS Constitution, a frigate of over 50 guns. The British ships attempted to sail together so as to not be overwhelmed by larger ships like the Constitution.
