Famous quotes containing the words captain, john, high and/or school:
“I do not believe in erecting statues to those who still live in our hearts, whose bones have not yet crumbled in the earth around us, but I would rather see the statue of Captain Brown in the Massachusetts State-House yard than that of any other man whom I know. I rejoice that I live in this age, that I am his contemporary.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Gracious Lord, oh bomb the Germans.
Spare their women for Thy Sake,
And if that is not too easy
We will pardon Thy Mistake.
But gracious Lord, whateer shall be,
Dont let anyone bomb me.”
—Sir John Betjeman (19061984)
“That is very high praise, which is given you by faithful witness.”
