History
Candid was created in May 2006 by Lisa Gu, Amber Makhani, Helen Wang, and Kae Wang. Working through summer break, the four high school students assembled the first issue of the magazine. With the help of Mandy Grewal and other students, editors sold advertisements and conducted fundraisers to cover the $5,000 cost of printing 5,000 copies.
For its second and subsequent issues, Candid expanded staff to include reporters, school representatives, graphics designers, and advertising representatives.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“Most events recorded in history are more remarkable than important, like eclipses of the sun and moon, by which all are attracted, but whose effects no one takes the trouble to calculate.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“I think that Richard Nixon will go down in history as a true folk hero, who struck a vital blow to the whole diseased concept of the revered image and gave the American virtue of irreverence and skepticism back to the people.”
—William Burroughs (b. 1914)
