Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge - Awards

Awards

There are several awards given to Canadian students through participation in the COMC:

  • National Gold, Silver, Bronze awards, as well as Honourable Mention,
  • National awards with these same tiers are given for each grade,
  • Provincial awards with these same tiers are given for all students and also for each grade,
  • Where there are many participants in a province, a third regional level of awards is also offered.

Canadian students who score exceptionally well (approximately the top 50) also earn invitations to participate in the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO), which in turn leads to selection of the Canadian Team for the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Other very strong Canadian students (approximately the next 50-100) earn invitations to participate in the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad Qualifying RepĂȘchage (CMOQR), which is a "second-chance" to demonstrate mastery suitable for an invitation to the CMO.

Non-Canadian students qualify for a separate set of Gold, Silver, and Bronze level awards. These and other strong international competitors earn a place on the International Honour Roll.

Additionally, randomized prizes may be awarded to official participants.
