In December 2008, CTV announced that Season 7 of Canadian Idol would not be aired in 2009, citing the current difficult economic situation as the reason for the hiatus.
Canadian Idol appeared to be non-existent from 2010 to 2012 as auditions that normally occur during February, March, and April were not announced and speculation continued that Idol has been cancelled outright. A Toronto Sun article, dated August 11, 2010, hinted that the show has ended.
