Camp Williams - Utah Data Center

Utah Data Center

The National Security Agency (NSA) is building the $1.5 billion Community Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative Data Center at Camp Williams, the first in a series of data centers required for the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative. The 1.5 million square foot facility built on 200 acres is expected to store 1 yottabyte of data by 2015. The facility which is expected to be completed in October 2013 will use 65 megawatts and will cost another $2 billion for hardware, software, and maintenance.

Camp Williams' former airfield, located on the West side of Highway 68, has been removed. Instead, the area that formerly held the airfield will now hold the National Security Agency's new data processing center, Utah Data Center. This facility will greatly increase the NSA's ability to store and process millions of emails, IMs, SMS, and phone calls made daily by people around the world and in the United States.

Famous quotes containing the words data and/or center:

This city is neither a jungle nor the moon.... In long shot: a cosmic smudge, a conglomerate of bleeding energies. Close up, it is a fairly legible printed circuit, a transistorized labyrinth of beastly tracks, a data bank for asthmatic voice-prints.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
