Documentary Film
Incendiary: The Willingham Case, a 2011 documentary film dissecting the case and its controversial aftermath, won the Louis Black Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. The film was one of ten American films screened in the 2011 AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival U.S. Feature Competition. In limited theatrical release, the film was a "critic's pick" of The Washington Post, The Village Voice, The Austin Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times, and The Dallas Morning News. Ann Hornaday of The Washington Post wrote, "nonfiction filmmaking at its most classic. Crime, punishment, morality and hardball politics make for an explosive narrative mix all their own." Sheri Linden of the Los Angeles Times called Incendiary "alarming viewing for anyone who cares about the American justice system". In 2012 Incendiary was released in iTunes movies and continues to screen on-demand in U.S. theaters.

Famous quotes containing the words documentary and/or film:
“What is a novel if not a conviction of our fellow-mens existence strong enough to take upon itself a form of imagined life clearer than reality and whose accumulated verisimilitude of selected episodes puts to shame the pride of documentary history?”
—Joseph Conrad (18571924)
“The obvious parallels between Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz have frequently been noted: in both there is the orphan hero who is raised on a farm by an aunt and uncle and yearns to escape to adventure. Obi-wan Kenobi resembles the Wizard; the loyal, plucky little robot R2D2 is Toto; C3PO is the Tin Man; and Chewbacca is the Cowardly Lion. Darth Vader replaces the Wicked Witch: this is a patriarchy rather than a matriarchy.”
—Andrew Gordon, U.S. educator, critic. The Inescapable Family in American Science Fiction and Fantasy Films, Journal of Popular Film and Television (Summer 1992)
