Famous quotes containing the words cambridge, grant, historic and/or district:

    For Cambridge people rarely smile,
Being urban, squat, and packed with guile.
    Rupert Brooke (1887–1915)

It’s not a pretty face, I grant you. But underneath its flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.
    Alan Jay Lerner (1918–1986)

Never is a historic deed already completed when it is done but always only when it is handed down to posterity. What we call “history” by no means represents the sum total of all significant deeds.... World history ... only comprises that tiny lighted sector which chanced to be placed in the spotlight by poetic or scholarly depictions.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

Most works of art, like most wines, ought to be consumed in the district of their fabrication.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)
