Councillors

There are forty two city councillors with three assigned to each ward. The council is composed of 21 Liberal Democrat, 19 Labour, 1 Conservative and 1 Independent councillors.

The current (2011) Mayor is Councillor Ian Nimmo-Smith and the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Caroline Hart. The Mayor's duties are almost entirely ceremonial, although they do chair meetings of the full Council.

The Leader of the Council is Councillor Tim Bick (LibDem), and the Deputy Leader is Councillor Catherine Smart (LibDem). The Liberal Democrats run a minority administration, having lost control of the Council in May 2012. The highest non-elected official is the Chief Executive, Antoinette Jackson.

Elections for a third of the seats take place 3 out of every 4 years. Cambridgeshire County Council elections take place in the 4th year. The County elections last took place in 2009.
