Caligula (film) - Critical Reception

Critical Reception

The film was panned by critics. Roger Ebert gave it a rare zero stars rating, calling it "sickening, utterly worthless, shameful trash." It is one of only three films Ebert ever walked out of ("two hours into its 170 minute length"), the other two being Tru Loved and Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Time Out London called the film "a dreary shambles".

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or reception:

The critical spirit never knows when to stop meddling.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody’s face but their own; which is the chief reason for that kind of reception it meets in the world, and that so very few are offended with it.
    Jonathan Swift (1667–1745)
