Butch Huskey - His Number

His Number

As a Met, Huskey wore the number 42 when Major League Baseball retired the number in honor of Jackie Robinson on April 15, 1997 in a game between the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers at Shea Stadium. A grandfather clause enabled him to wear the number for the remainder of his career if he so chose; he changed his number to 44 with the Red Sox, then reverted to 42 with the Twins.

Famous quotes containing the word number:

How often should a woman be pregnant? Continually, or hardly ever? Or must there be a certain number of pregnancy anniversaries established by fashion? What do you, at the age of forty-three, have to say on the subject? Is it a fact that the laws of nature, or of the country, or of propriety, have ordained this time of life for sterility?
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

If I could live as a tree, as a river, as the moon, as the sun, as a star, as the earth, as a rock, I would. ...Writing permits me to experience life as any number of strange creations.
    Alice Walker (b. 1944)
