2008 Season

The 2008 season saw Burnley finish in twelfth position in the Lancashire League. Beginning the season with a new skipper in Qasim Ali and new professional Jeeva Kulatunga, life after Jon Harvey (2005-2007 pro), Jonathon Clare and Vishal Tripathi was never going to be easy. Sri Lankan Kulatunga hit 468 runs at 22.3 with a highest score of 68 and he picked up 33 wickets at 20.1 with a best of 6-61. The club's top performer was Bharat Tripathi who became the youngest player to take 50 wickets in a season since Jonathan Fielding in 1991, the 18 year-old left spinner finishing with 54 at 16.0 with a best of 7-35. James Capstick lent good support with 34 wickets at 19.7 and Steve Brunt made the most of the absence of Graham Lalor through injury to take 28 wickets at 17.5 in an unaccustomed role. The all rounder also scored 228 runs at 13.4. Daniel Pickup was the leading run scorer with 395 runs at 20.8 with an epic and career best 115 against being Accrington the highlight. Mohammed Jamal has successful first season with 365 runs at 16.6, Michael Kelly hit 356 at 20.9 and Ben Law made 336 at 16.0. New skipper Ali hit 315 runs at 19.7, resigning before the end of the season to let Kulatunga take over. The team reached the semi final of the Worsley Cup and the final of the 20/20.
