Burnett Honors College

Burnett Honors College

The Burnett Honors College is an academic college of the University of Central Florida located in Orlando, Florida, USA. Founded in 1998 as the University Honors Program, it was expanded and renamed in 2002 in response to a $1.5 million gift by Al and Nancy Burnett. The dean of the college is Alvin Y. Wang, Ph.D.

The college administers UCF's two honors programs, University Honors and Honors in the Major, through programs of advanced study at the university's main campus in Orlando. The honors program encompasses students who are also in one of UCF's eleven other academic colleges, but have applied to and been accepted to The Burnett Honors College. The college offers an honors dormitory in the Towers at Knights Plaza, and honors students are assisted with applying for prestigious post-graduate honors and fellowships, and are entitled to priority scheduling, specialized academic advisers, smaller classes that benefit from a more hands-on approach, and specialty courses and programs.

Famous quotes containing the words burnett, honors and/or college:

I have grown so tired of Woman with a capital W, though I suppose it is rankest heresy to say so. I don’t want to be Woman at all—I have begun to feel that I want to be something like this—WO—A–.
    —Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924)

    My heart’s subdued
Even to the very quality of my lord.
I saw Othello’s visage in his mind,
And to his honors and his valiant parts
Did I my soul and fortunes consecrate.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

... when you make it a moral necessity for the young to dabble in all the subjects that the books on the top shelf are written about, you kill two very large birds with one stone: you satisfy precious curiosities, and you make them believe that they know as much about life as people who really know something. If college boys are solemnly advised to listen to lectures on prostitution, they will listen; and who is to blame if some time, in a less moral moment, they profit by their information?
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)
