Burn Bridge - The Westminster Estate

The Westminster Estate

This estate, known locally as the Westminsters, contains some houses built in the 1920s. It was expanded by 147 houses in the 1950s, and c65 more were added by George Wimpey by 1961 on a slope where there were once drystone-walled pastures and a small wood. In Westminster Drive there are the two last remaining thatched houses in the area, and a Victorian house built before 1860, which was once called The Horst.

Famous quotes containing the word estate:

    Sweet are the thoughts that savour of content,
    The quiet mind is richer than a crown;
    Sweet are the nights in careless slumber spent,
    The poor estate scorns Fortune’s angry frown.
    Such sweet content, such minds, such sleep, such bliss,
    Beggars enjoy, when princes oft do miss.
    Robert Greene (1558?–1592)
