Famous quotes containing the words grand, slam and/or record:

“It has been said that the immortality of the soul is a “grand peut-être”Mbut still it is a grand one. Everybody clings to it—the stupidest, and dullest, and wickedest of human bipeds is still persuaded that he is immortal.”
    —George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

“Hilary Clinton’s great sin was that she left the nicely wallpapered domestic sphere with a slam of the door, took up public life on her own, leaving big feminist footprints all over the place, and without so much as an apology.”
    —Patricia J. Williams (b. 1942)

    “The house seems heavier
Now that they have gone away.
In fact it emptied in record time.”
    —John Ashbery (b. 1927)
