Second World War (1939-1945)
For service in World War II, ten battalions were raised :
- 4th (Territorial Army) Battalion
- 5th (Territorial Army) Battalion
- 6th (Home Defence) Battalion
- 7th Battalion This was converted to armour in 1941 as 141st Regiment Royal Armoured Corps (7th Battalion The Buffs). They continued to wear their Buffs cap badge on the black beret of the RAC.
- 8th Battalion
- 9th Battalion
- 10th Battalion
- 11th Battalion
- 30th Battalion
- 70th (Young Soldiers') Battalion
