Opening Convocation

The Van Wickle Gates, the grand entrance to campus, are only opened twice a year. At the beginning of the academic year, the incoming freshmen process in through the gates, and are welcomed by the University president in a convocation on the Main Green. On their way to the Main Green, they are applauded by fellow Brown students and professors, and greeted by the University President. They then proceed to the Main Green where a convocation speech is held.

Famous quotes containing the word opening:

“Who are you,” said the caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, Sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then.”
Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)
