Brooklyn Philharmonic - Educational Work

Educational Work

The Brooklyn Philharmonic develops, financially supports and staffs some of the largest educational programs specifically aimed at financially disadvantaged children in New York. The Philharmonic’s “Smart Arts Academy,” to cite one example, provides free daily music, arts, dance, theater, sports, movie making, and enrichment activities to about 250 students per school annually totaling some 6,000 students from New York’s most financially challenged public schools. The Philharmonic’s educational programs are supported by funds obtained by and for the orchestra.

Famous quotes containing the words educational and/or work:

An educational method that shall have liberty as its basis must intervene to help the child to a conquest of liberty. That is to say, his training must be such as shall help him to diminish as much as possible the social bonds which limit his activity.
    Maria Montessori (1870–1952)

    But this rough magic
I here abjure, and when I have required
Some heavenly music—which even now I do—
To work mine end upon their senses that
This airy charm is for, I’ll break my staff,
Bury it certain fathoms in the earth,
And deeper than did ever plummet sound
    I’ll drown my book.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
