Controversy Over Failure To Administer CPR

One of the company's facilities, Glenwood Gardens in Bakersfield, California, was the focus of national media coverage when a staff member refused to give CPR to Lorainne Bayless, a dying patient. The company cited a policy against giving CPR to independent living facility residents, but did not provide the policy to reporters. Police closed its investigation of the facility with no criminal charges, and Bayless's family said it had no intention of suing Brookdale.

Famous quotes containing the words controversy, failure and/or administer:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

It could be clearly proved that by a practical nullification [by the South] of the Fifteenth Amendment the Republicans have for several years been deprived of a majority in both the House and Senate. The failure of the South to faithfully observe the Fifteenth Amendment is the cause of the failure of all efforts towards complete pacification. It is on this hook that the bloody shirt now hangs.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

It is too late in the century for women who have received the benefits of co-education in schools and colleges, and who bear their full share in the world’s work, not to care who make the laws, who expound and who administer them.
    J. Ellen Foster (1840–1910)
