Differences Between Old (telephony) and New Services

Conventional telephony communicates using:

  • the voice medium only,
  • connects only two telephones per telephone call, and
  • uses circuits of fixed bit-rates.

Modern communication services differ in three essential aspects. Modern services can be:

  • Multimedia,
  • multi-point, and
  • multi-rate.
