The British Universities American Football League (BUAFL) is an American football league contested by university teams in England, Wales and Scotland. The league was formed by the British American Football Association in 2007 as the successor to the British Collegiate American Football League after the BSAFAs public disagreements with the BAFAs policies led to them being ex-communicated by the other BAFA members in particular the BAFL which ironically and justifiably was also later ex-communicated for almost exactly the same reason.
The BUAFL is, as of November 2008, officially associated with the National Football League (NFL), through its partner organization NFLUK.
BUAFL largely follows the rules of the American college league, NCAA Football. Following a twelve-week regular season, the best four teams from each conference (two divisional champions plus two runners-up) compete in a knock-out play-off system (similar to the NFL) for the conference championship and ultimately at the National Championship Game (formerly known as the College Bowl) which has traditionally been held at the South Leeds Stadium, although the 2010 final was played at the Sixfields Stadium in Northampton.
The current 2012 BUAFL National Champions are the Hertfordshire Hurricanes defeating the Birmingham Lions 37–19 in at John Charles Stadium in Leeds.

Famous quotes containing the words british, universities, american, football and/or league:
“There is not a more disgusting spectacle under the sun than our subserviency to British criticism. It is disgusting, first, because it is truckling, servile, pusillanimoussecondly, because of its gross irrationality. We know the British to bear us little but ill willwe know that, in no case do they utter unbiased opinions of American books ... we know all this, and yet, day after day, submit our necks to the degrading yoke of the crudest opinion that emanates from the fatherland.”
—Edgar Allan Poe (18091845)
“... though mathematics may teach a man how to build a bridge, it is what the Scotch Universities call the humanities, that teach him to be civil and sweet-tempered.”
—Amelia E. Barr (18311919)
“For it does not follow because many books are written by persons born in America that there exists an American literature. Books which imitate or represent the thoughts and life of Europe do not constitute an American literature. Before such can exist, an original idea must animate this nation and fresh currents of life must call into life fresh thoughts along its shores.”
—Margaret Fuller (18101850)
“...Im not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but whats the difference? You cant take it with you. The toys get different, thats all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. Its all relative.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
