Brisbane River Stage - History

History

Brisbane’s Riverstage was officially opened on the 7th September 1989 by the Right Honourable Lord Mayor Alderman Sallyanne Atkinson, and has a two hectare site within the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens with a capacity of 9,000 people. It was inspired by the temporary and very successful Riverstage used for World Expo '88 a year earlier, located on the opposite side of the Brisbane River at the Expo site. Now used for local, national and international music festivals and performances, the venue consists of offices, dressing rooms, kitchen facilities, a covered rooftop hospitality area and parking is available onsite.

British acts Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris performed a sideshow to the Big Day Out on 19th January 2010. This was Lily Allen's final musical visit to Australia. The Riverstage was formerly the venue for the touring Soundwave festival; having its first show there in 2007 and returning in 2008. Daft Punk performed on the Riverstage on 20 December 2007 as part of the NeverEverland tour. Other bands to play at The Riverstage include INXS, The Prodigy, Paramore, Them Crooked Vultures, Slipknot, Machine Head, Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Shadows Fall, Devildriver, Kasabian, Muse, Korn, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb Of God, Parkway Drive and Megadeth. Brisbane band Powderfinger performed their final show at the venue in November 2010.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The myth of independence from the mother is abandoned in mid- life as women learn new routes around the mother—both the mother without and the mother within. A mid-life daughter may reengage with a mother or put new controls on care and set limits to love. But whatever she does, her child’s history is never finished.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

We know only a single science, the science of history. One can look at history from two sides and divide it into the history of nature and the history of men. However, the two sides are not to be divided off; as long as men exist the history of nature and the history of men are mutually conditioned.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

The history of medicine is the history of the unusual.
Robert M. Fresco, and Jack Arnold. Prof. Gerald Deemer (Leo G. Carroll)
