Brigantine Yankee - Fate

Fate

The Brigantine Yankee was wrecked on a reef a few years later, dragging its anchor in a gale off Rarotonga in the Cook Islands on 23 July 1964, owned by Windjammer Cruises, Inc. of Miami, Florida and captained by Derek Lumbers. At the time, Yankee was about halfway through a 14-month global circumnavigation cruise.

Famous quotes containing the word fate:

So the old flute was doomed and its fate was pathetic,
‘Twas fastened and burned at the stake as heretic,
While the flames roared around it they heard a strange
    noise—
‘Twas the old flute still whistling ‘The Protestant Boys’.
—Unknown. The Old Orange Flute (l. 37–40)

Good-by, my book! Like mortal eyes, imagined ones must close some day. Onegin from his knees will rise—but his creator strolls away. And yet the ear cannot right now part with the music and allow the tale to fade; the chords of fate itself continue to vibrate; and no obstruction for the sage exists where I have put The End: the shadows of my world extend beyond the skyline of the page, blue as tomorrow’s morning haze—nor does this terminate the phrase.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

... fate is not an eagle, it creeps like a rat.
    Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)
